Charles Lewis Atley, formerly of Kennett Square
Charles Lewis Atley, 79, of Ft. Myers, Fla., formerly of Kennett Square, husband of Connie Atley for 54 years, passed on Monday, April 30, 2012. Born May 19, 1932 in West Chester, he was the son of the late Leon Atley and Mable Martha McKim Atley. He attended schools in the Kennett Square area, graduating from Kennett High School in 1951. He also attended Business School at Colorado State College, Goldey-Beacon. Charles served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was a recruiter and corporal serving in the Korean Conflict. Charles was a member of the VFW in Kennett Square, Masonic Lodge in Kennett Square, Carter-Miller-Johnson #8984, Hope Chatham Masonic Lodge and the Count Social in Kennett Square. In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish loving memories, children, Charles “Kip” Atley of Ft. Myers, Fla., Jeffrey Atley of Coatesville, Joseph Atley of Memphis, Tenn., Steven Atley of Audubon, N.J., Anthony “Pep” Atley of Bear, Del.; six grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; brother, Elwood “Woody” Atley of Kennett Square; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Saunders and Janet Johnson; one brother, Earl Atley; and one granddaughter, Veronica Benson. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Greater Works Ministries, 553 Rosedale Road, Kennett Square. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service.
